Timothy W. Amerson
Cybersecurity Executive | Former Deputy CISO, SSA | CEO, CASMO Consulting. With over 30 years of leadership in both the civilian and military sectors, our founder is a multi-certified cybersecurity and IT executive who has driven large-scale transformations across federal agencies such as the Social Security Administration (SSA) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
As the CISO and Deputy CISO at SSA, he led the agency’s implementation of Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) under Executive Order 14028, improving enterprise security and propelling SSA’s FISMA compliance score from 70% to 98% — the largest improvement among all federal agencies.
- Establishing SSA’s ZTA Program Office and enhancing endpoint detection & logging.
- Modernizing the 24/7 SOC to support 99.95% business uptime for mission-critical systems.

A respected voice in the cybersecurity community, he’s contributed to national cyber exercises including Cyber Storm, Cyber Guard, and Cyber Shield, collaborating with agencies like NSA, DHS, FBI, and ODNI.
His 32-year military career includes leadership roles with the Texas National Guard, where he helped establish the first-ever multi-state Cyber Protection Team and led Red/Blue Team operations supporting national cyber defense.
At the VA, he enhanced veteran care delivery by deploying enterprise DLP, enabling secure telehealth, and boosting infrastructure visibility from 55% to 96%.
Today, as CEO of CASMO Consulting, he provides cybersecurity advisory services to both government and private clients, specializing in:
